Quiz :How to Boost Your CEFR Level Practically
If you’re aiming to level up - from A2 to B1, B1 to B2, or even to claim that C1 badge - you’ll want some practical strategies that work well for a CEFR-style skill development.
For listening skills, try incorporating both active and passive listening into your routine. Passive listening is great for building familiarity, such as playing podcasts when working or putting on the English radio while cooking. On the other hand, active listening means paying attention to the person who is speaking. Try listening to short clips and summarising what you've gathered. If you can explain it simply, you’ve understood it!
Reading is another major CEFR skill. It's recommended that you choose reading materials that are appropriately challenging, and it may be demotivating if a text feels impossible. If it’s too easy, you won’t progress. Online news portals, graded readers, fashion articles, and even recipe blogs can be great practice. Keep a “word bank” of new vocabulary and review your notes regularly.
To polish grammar, use online platforms that offer bite-sized drills. You may find that 5 minutes of focused practice is more effective than an hour of glazing over your grammar worksheets. And if you’re a fan of quizzes (which you probably are, since you’re here), take them regularly: they’re a great checkpoint to measure improvement.
Use this quiz as a baseline. Once you know your CEFR level, you can tailor your learning to exactly what skills need strengthening. Bit by bit, the progress adds up... and you’ll be surprised how quickly your English confidence grows.
