My Teaching Approach & Tutoring Style:
I understand that math can feel overwhelming, frustrating, or discouraging especially when concepts start to stack on top of each other. As a college Civil Engineering student, I’ve been in that position myself, so I teach with patience, clarity, and empathy. My goal isn’t just to help students get the right answer, but to help them truly understand the “why” behind each step, because that's what makes math fun!
I focus heavily on practice problems, because math is a skill that improves through repetition and confidence building. I walk students through problems step by step, then gradually shift responsibility to them so they can apply the method independently. Mistakes are treated as learning tools, not failures.
Teaching Methods & Techniques:
- Step-by-step problem breakdowns
- Guided practice followed by independent practice
- Clear explanations using multiple approaches when needed
- Real-world examples to make abstract concepts more relatable
- Positive reinforcement to rebuild confidence and reduce math anxiety
A Typical Lesson Plan:
1. Start with a quick check-in to identify what the student is struggling with
2. Concept review - using simple explanations and visuals
3. Guided practice problems - completed together
4. Independent practice problems - with feedback
5. Review and recap - including strategies the student can reuse on homework, quizzes, and tests
Lessons are flexible and adjusted to each student’s pace and learning style.
