• 1) When did you develop an interest in your chosen field and in private tutoring?

  I developed an interest in finance, management, and quantitative subjects early in my academic journey, recognizing how crucial they are for both professional success and personal growth. My passion for private tutoring and coaching grew as I started helping peers and colleagues not only with exams like the CFA, GMAT, and GRE, but also with job hunting, interview preparation, and navigating university coursework. Seeing them succeed - whether by passing a tough exam or landing a dream job - gave me a deep sense of fulfillment and purpose.

• 2) Tell us more about the subject you teach, the topics you like to discuss with students (and possibly those you like a little less).

  I specialize in helping students prepare for the math and finance sections of exams like the CFA, GMAT, GRE, and ACT, as well as supporting them with university-level finance, management, and quantitative subjects. Additionally, I provide job search coaching, resume and cover letter support, and interview preparation. I particularly enjoy helping students build strong problem-solving strategies and coaching them on how to present themselves confidently in professional settings. While some repetitive drills can be less exciting, I see their value and always aim to make them engaging and purposeful.

• 3) Did you have any role models; a teacher that inspired you?

  Yes, I've been fortunate to have mentors who not only mastered their subject matter but also cared deeply about personal development. One mentor showed me that success is as much about mindset and preparation as it is about knowledge - a lesson that has shaped my own approach to tutoring and coaching.

• 4) What do you think are the qualities required to be a good tutor?

  A good tutor must be patient, adaptable, and an excellent communicator. But beyond that, a great tutor or coach understands how to motivate, build confidence, and personalize strategies to fit each student's unique goals - whether that's mastering quantitative topics, preparing for a big exam, or landing a new job. Reliability, empathy, and genuine investment in the student's progress are also essential

• 5) Provide a valuable anecdote related to your subject or your days at school.

  I once worked with a university student who was struggling not only with their finance coursework but also with finding an internship. We worked together to improve their academic understanding while also building a strong resume, practicing mock interviews, and developing a clear job search strategy. By the end of the term, they had both improved their grades and secured a competitive internship - a powerful reminder that academic success and career success often go hand in hand.

• 6) What were the difficulties or challenges you faced or still face in your subject?

  A common challenge is helping students or professionals overcome self-doubt, especially when facing tough exams or competitive job markets. Many people underestimate their own capabilities or get stuck in negative thinking patterns. Part of my role as a tutor and coach is to help them break through those mental blocks, build confidence, and create structured, achievable plans for success

• 7) Do you have a particular passion? Is it teaching in general or an element of the subject or something completely different?

  My passion lies in empowering people to achieve their academic and professional goals. Whether it's teaching finance concepts, helping someone pass the CFA, or preparing a student for job interviews, I find it incredibly rewarding to see people grow and succeed. I'm also passionate about cross-cultural learning, and as a fluent Mandarin speaker, I enjoy helping students explore language and cultural connections.
