About Genesis
I am Panamanian-American born in the US and raised overseas in China and Spain. I have been surrounded by languages and language teaching and learning all of my life! My parents were language coaches with GPA, teaching Mandarin Chinese to foreign students in Central China, and we saw students be able to communicate in basic Mandarin in the span of a few short months. Along with that personal experience, I have my bachelor's degree in International Relations, a minor in Mandarin, Chinese, and a certificate and Peace and Conflict studies focused on community development.
I started my tutoring career in highschool where I taught English to Spanish speakers and continued through college as I tutored college-level Spanish language classes for 2 years. Having taught both languages, I both understand the language I am teaching and the language my student's brain currently functions in - giving me a greater advantage in teaching effectively.
I grew up studying and teaching languages with GPA and am so excited to help my Spanish students learn one of my heart languages through GPA! The sooner we start the sooner you will find yourself understanding and speaking one of the most beautiful and the third most used language in the world!

In order to help my students learn Spanish in the most sustainable way and see language development as fast as possible, I take the GPA approach to language learning. GPA stands for "Growing Participator's Approach" and focuses on learning languages as a child learns to speak:
1. first to listen well and be able to recognize words
2. then to speak
3. & finally to read and write.
This method works as long as students are willing to participate. The only way to not learn a language through this method is if the student stops participating. And as the phases of learning continue, the student will naturally be able to and begin to participate more and more. The only way not to learn is not to try with this method!
