I am patient and tend to tailor my approach to suit my clients needs, adapting to suit their personality. I am happy to focus on the areas they struggle with until they grasp the topics at hand.
In general, confidence and practice are the real keys to success when it comes to conquering the subject of maths.
With new content, if confidence is an issue, I stagger my approach in order to ease students in. A lot of encouragement is used and I try to link new content to content already recognised, that a student can solve with ease. I adapt questions slowly, increasing the difficulty, so we can understand and solve new questions together before my students independently solve problems. Once we get to the point of successfully answering maths problems independently for a particular topic, practice makes perfect!
As confidence improves, pupils begin to persevere more with questions and do not give up so easily, this is an important part of learning maths.
