About Emma
My love for languages and literature began when studying Spanish at GCSE. I was very fortunate in that I had teachers who nurtured my passion and encouraged me to do further reading to expand my knowledge beyond the scope of GCSE. However, I am aware that many schools stick very much to the curriculum, which can be onerous and does not inspire any interest beyond formulaic language rules and exceptions. This means that the majority of students do not pursue their language(s) any further after GCSE. So, my goal as a tutor can be split into two sections. The first, of course, is to ensure that students are confident with the GCSE material in order to get top grades in their final exams. My second goal is to nurture a passion for the language beyond the exam board specification. I do this by suggesting further reading that I think will speak to the student's particular interests, and even films and TV shows that will improve their listening and speaking skills and expose them to the wider set of cultures in the Spanish-speaking world.
Put simply, I would love to encourage more students to pursue Spanish to A-Level and beyond.

My lessons are typically 1 hour long. I have always tutored over Zoom and so have lots of experience tutoring remotely. I have over 40 PowerPoints that I have prepared for previous lessons that each tackle a specific topic - for example, reading exercises about the 'Environment' topic, or speaking exercises about the 'Work and Employment' topic. However, I am always flexible and in tune with my students to cater to them individually. This means I will add in extra slides about specific vocab/grammar rules that I notice they particularly struggle with. I have been successful using this method with 3 GCSE pupils over the past 2 years - all of whom came out with the top grades 8-9. I have no previous experience teaching A-Level students but would also be grateful for any opportunity to teach at this higher level.
Regarding my own qualifications, I recently achieved a double distinction in my First Year Examinations at Oxford University, meaning that I achieved a '1st' in both Spanish and Italian.

She plans lessons well and makes the work very interesting for every age group she is working will. My daughter learned a lot from Emma.
Emma tutored my son for a few weeks before his Spanish oral exam to give him some confidence as well as brushing up on his Spanish terminology! She was great, Zach was very comfortable with her and really felt like she helped him prepare for the dreaded gcse exams. He is yet to get his results but he got the impression from his teacher that he did well. I would not hesitate in recommending Emma to any children / adults who need to brush up on their Spanish Speaking, listening or writing skills.
