About Alys
Hi! I'm Alys and I am currently a dental student at Cardiff University. I have always had a passion for biology and chemistry, and I know first hand what it takes to achieve top grades. I achieved 12 A*s in my GCSEs including biology and chemistry and studied both of these subjects at A-level. I also continue to study them in depth every day as part of my degree!
Having recently been through the GCSE & A-level system myself, I understand the challenges students face. It can seem daunting having your first 'important' exam approaching, and I would like to help students go into the exam feeling more confident and help to take some of the pressure away! Throughout GCSEs, A-levels and University I have figured out the revision techniques that genuinely work - this would have been useful to know right at the start which is why I would like to pass on my knowledge to help students develop skills needed to succeed in their exams.
By working with both adult and paediatric patients, I have developed strong communication skills that enable me to explain complex concepts in a way that is tailored to each individual's needs. I am friendly, patient and approachable, and I believe with the right support every student can improve their grades!

I teach GCSE BIOLOGY AND CHEMISTRY for students of all abilities.
As a dental student, I use biology and chemistry every day in my degree and have studied 'bioscience' in great depth in my first couple of years of university, giving me a strong understanding of both subjects well beyond the GCSE syllabus. Having achieved A*s in biology and chemistry myself, I know exactly what examiners are looking for and how to study effectively for top grades.
My lessons are tailored to each student's individual needs. Whether you want to strengthen your understanding of key concepts, improve exam technique, push for higher grades, or you are struggling to figure out the 'best way to revise', I can help you. I explain difficult topics in a clear, straightforward way. I help students make effective summary notes (or pass on notes of my own) including diagrams and worked examples. My lesson plans will be based off of your individual requests - e.g., if you let me know a topic that you are struggling with, I will explain, provide summary sheets, go through questions, then work through previous past paper questions of this topic understanding exactly what buzz words the examiners always look for. I will ensure you fully understand the content rather than just memorising it.
Lessons are typically 60 minutes (but can be shorter/longer if requested), and I give optional practice questions to help you make progress between lessons.
