About Isaiah
Professional Background: I currently work full-time as a Quantitative Analyst, and have 18 months of experience in the field. I bring to the table a palette of expertise in the fields of mathematics, finance, statistics, and computer programming (Python and R) as part of delivering on my day-to-day duties at work. I am also currently pursuing a Masters in Quantitative Finance with SOAS University of London on a part-time basis, and I have a BSc Actuarial Science first honours with Heriot-Watt University, as well as 6 actuarial exemptions with the IFoA (CS1-2, CM1-2, CB1-2). My full updated working resume is available upon request. Teaching Background: Prior to writing this advertisement, I have 3+ years of experience teaching online + physically in chess and mathematics. During this period, I have amassed 400+ hours of teaching experience and I teach a wide array of age ranges, starting from as young as 5 years old up until 50+ year old hobbyists who are wanting to pick up a new craft. My tutoring services have been rated 5 stars by 10 of my former students here on Superprof, for which I attained Ambassador status on this website. Teaching Style: When it comes to mathematics, my teaching style has a great emphasis on intuitiveness - that is, the key to doing well in maths-related subjects is to understand and to be able to visualize, from a logical perspective, what the formula and proofs are trying to present. I have also developed a talent for being able to relate with students regardless of their level of understanding through years of experience, and I am able to adjust the depth of my teaching to be accessible to the student. I am therefore confident that, regardless of your current level of understanding, I am able to add value to your knowledge and understanding in ways that would be meaningful and significant to you.

The class will be 1 on 1 based on your individual requirements. 1. Prior to accepting you as a student, we will arrange for a 30-minute 'diagnosis' session. This session is free, and the purpose of this session is for me to understand what you need help on, and to discuss an arrangement that would suit your need and meet my availability. As much as I would like to understand your background, you might also want to be sure that you are comfortable with having me as a tutor, so I do encourage you to prepare questions in advance if you may have any doubts. 2. Based on your request and needs, I will ask for the necessary lecture notes/material, and I will prepare the lessons based on your notes. You are encouraged to read your own notes and prepare questions prior to attending the class to maximize the value of the class (because then I will spend less time talking about things you already know, and more time addressing your problems). Else, I will assume that you are unfamiliar with the notes and spend time ensuring that you understand all the important details in your lecture material. ----------- IMPORTANT NOTE: I WILL NOT ENTERTAIN any requests to answer any graded assignments and/or exams. I strongly believe that assessments are a key component of learning, as well as great opportunities to build up key characteristics such as honesty, integrity, and diligence. If I help you answer your assessments directly, not only is it ethically wrong, but I am also robbing you of the opportunity to learn, therefore I will not do as such. For clarification - Suppose you have an assessment coming up, and you don't have much time left (say 2 days or less). What I would normally suggest is that: a) if you have sample papers, we can have a session where we discuss and work on the paper together. That way, I can help affirm what you understand, and fill in the gaps where you may have doubts b) else, let's just go through your lecture notes - we can skim through the material and then maybe discuss more on the topics you're struggling with. But in no circumstance would I agree to directly help you answer any of your assessments.

A really friendly person, and he's good at explaining things in a way that makes it easy for even beginners to understand
I've had the privilege to know Isaiah personally as a friend for a few years and this is what I can vouch for him:
1. He is passionate about playing chess therefore spends much time and effort perfecting the art of chess.
2. Equipped with teaching experience, Isaiah knows how to translate chess basics, theory and notation to the level of understanding for anyone whom he will be teaching.
As such, you can be sure that Isaiah provides you with the best experience in learning chess.Knowing him as a friend, he is a man of his words, he will only commit to something where he is able to.
Isaiah is my colleague, he is a great tutor because he is excellent in delivering simplistic and realistic explanations and idea from rough and difficult concept. Moreover, he is very humble and down to earth person, he will be your best guidance in your studies!

Details
My policies are as follows: 1. When you decide to hire me for the first time, you must book me for at least 5 hours, and pay an advance of 5 hours 24 hours prior to our first session. Any additional session(s) after that must be paid for at least 24 hours in advance. 2. All sessions must be at least 60 minutes in length, and increments must be in 30-minute intervals (i.e.: each session must be either 60mins, 90mins, 120mins, etc.) 3. Requests to cancel or shift pre-agreed sessions can be given by either party at least 24 hours in advance. Should no such request be made 24 hours in advance, that session will be considered as confirmed. 4. In the event of a no-show, that session will be treated as a 60-minute session and charged accordingly. Requests for a refund will not be entertained (rest assured, I will make every effort to text or call you if you do not show up on time, but I am strict on this policy - if I accept your booking, it would mean that I have already made every care and effort to avail myself just for you) 5. In the event that you would like to early terminate my services, I will refund you 80% of the unused advance for the first 5 hours, and 100% of any further unused advance within 2 working days (based on the Malaysian national calendar). 6. The price of RM120/hr applies only to non-final year Degree taught subjects. Final year degree subjects and Master level subjects are charged at a higher rate (around RM150-RM200, depending on the level of difficulty) Additional Notes for your interest: At first glance, the fee of RM120/hour may seem extremely steep, but after carefully considering my existing commitments, I have decided to only extend this opportunity to 1 student at a time. This is so that I am able to consistently deliver my best and spend proper time and care to structure each lesson for your best benefit, and for that level of commitment and exclusivity, I deem RM120/hour as fair and reasonable.
