About Ajay Singh

I am 5th Dan Black belt in Taekwondo and have over 16 years of teaching experience. I am part of Team GB squad. Previously represented GB in World Taekwondo Poomsae championships 2018 & European Taekwondo Poomsae championships 2019. I have experience of running Beginner and Advanced training sessions. Demonstrated expertise in working with children with autism and ADHD, bolstered by specialised certifications in autism, sport, and physical activity. Recognised Para-Taekwondo classifier.

  • What age did you start playing sport? Tell us about this time or moment in your life.

    I began practicing Taekwondo at the age of 6, influenced by my active nature and a love for martial arts movies. My uncle, with prior experience in Taekwondo, recommended it to me.
  • What are your favourite sports; those that you practice at a high level, a simple hobby, and a sport that you'd still like to discover?

    I began playing cricket at the school level, and it remains my second favourite sport. I occasionally play it with friends. While I enjoy watching tennis, I haven't played it much, but it's a sport I am interested in exploring further.
  • What gives you the motivation and passion to pursue your sport?

    The myriad benefits of Taekwondo, encompassing self-defence skills and vital life values such as courtesy, integrity, perseverance, self-control, and indomitable spirit, serve as a profound source of motivation and passion for my pursuit of this martial art. Recognizing its potential for fostering overall personality development, my goal is to share these benefits with individuals of all ages in my community, city, country, and globally.
  • Do you have a sporting achievement that you're particularly proud of?

    As a multiple-time National Taekwondo champion, the pinnacle of pride in my athletic journey was representing my country, Great Britain, in both World and European Taekwondo championships.
  • How have your achievements and challenges made you a better sportsperson?

    Taekwondo, with its emphasis on life values like perseverance and indomitable spirit, has equipped me to confront challenges throughout my martial arts journey. My achievements have cultivated humility and a focused mindset for future sporting goals, while challenges have contributed to my mental and physical strength, ultimately shaping me into a better sportsperson.
  • If you had to go for a jog with a famous athlete, who would you choose? And what questions would you ask them?

    I would choose Roger Federer, a tennis legend, as my jogging companion despite being from a different sport. His remarkable achievements and humble nature inspire me. During our jog, I'd inquire about the secrets behind winning numerous Grand Slams while maintaining a humble demeanour on and off the court. I'd also seek insights into how he navigated mental and physical challenges, particularly during injuries or low points in his career.
  • How do you help people stay motivated?

    I help people stay motivated by setting clear goals, providing positive reinforcement, fostering a supportive and encouraging environment, offering varied and engaging training routines, and emphasizing the personal growth and benefits gained through consistent practice.
  • What makes you a Superprof in sports?

    I have demonstrated exceptional expertise, skills, and knowledge in my martial arts discipline, Taekwondo. This includes a high level of proficiency in techniques, effective teaching abilities, a deep understanding of martial arts philosophy, and a commitment to continuous learning and improvement.
