About Shahden
I’m an Applied Mathematics graduate from the University of Oregon with a focus in statistical and numerical analysis, and I’ve been tutoring math for nearly a decade across high school and university-level coursework.
Alongside private tutoring, I worked as a math tutor and lead assistant in the University of Oregon’s mathematics library, where I developed teaching materials, trained other tutors, and supported a wide range of students with different learning needs. I’ve also mentored students long-term, helping them reach top performance in their math courses through consistent, individualized support.
I take professionalism seriously, I’m reliable, a good communicator, and intentional with how I structure sessions so that students feel both supported and challenged. My goal isn’t just to help you get through assignments, but to make sure you actually understand the material and can approach future problems with confidence.

My approach is very concept-first. I don’t just walk students through steps; I make sure they actually understand why something works, so they can handle new problems on their own. I adjust quickly to different learning styles and personalities, whether that means breaking things down visually, connecting ideas across topics, or slowing things way down and rebuilding fundamentals.
A typical session starts with identifying where things stopped making sense, then we rebuild that piece together and immediately apply it to current homework or test problems. I’ll usually mix explanation, guided practice, and independent attempts so students leave feeling confident, not just “shown.”
What sets me apart is experience and adaptability - I’ve worked with a high volume of students across high school through upper-level college math (especially calculus and statistics), including mentoring students long-term to top grades. I’m also very good at working with different personalities and helping students stay calm and focused when they’re stuck.
My lessons are best for high school and college students, especially those in Algebra through Calculus and Statistics, including students who feel behind, overwhelmed, or need structured support to get back on track.
