About Brook
Having completed four years at St Andrews, I aspire to lecture and teach at university level; I would love to help other students foster the same appreciation and enthusiasm for literature that I have. This all begins, as I can attest, through the passion and support of a teacher who I strongly believe I can become. I graduated with a first-class degree in Comparative Literature (or international literature) and Film Studies, making Dean's List twice (I also took English Literature for two years). I achieved A* A* A A at A-Level in English, Politics, Philosophy and an Independent Research Project respectively, receiving an academic scholarship to The King's School Canterbury. This is my first job teaching or tutoring, though I have plenty of experience in organising, communicating and public speaking through my recurrent roles as student representative and organiser/speaker for multiple film festivals. I have also won awards for public presentation regarding my dissertation and university radio shows in which I discuss literature and film. Outside of university, I play tennis, though my real love is for football. I have a passion for the natural world and environmentalism, with a particular love for animals: I recently won a prize for my dissertation which engaged with climate change and ghost stories.

I teach remotely for lessons that range from 60-90 minutes (your choice), in which I help students develop critical and close reading skills as well as practise creative writing. This would be structured at a 2:1 ratio, and would be best suited for GCSE level where these skills in particular are examined. Alternatively, I can focus or adapt these lessons as suitable or as requested. First lesson free! In a 90 minute lesson, we would analyse a passage together discussing aspects of context, structure, theme and language: the four crucial elements needed at GCSE level. These would range from Victorian and modern prose to poetry - we would also look at the set texts for the exam in due course in order to practise a template ready for the exam. I would also present a passage for the student to have a look at before our next lesson, to further their independent understanding.
