Mathematics is about describing patterns we observe in our environment. If certain mathematical concepts didn't exist, students would have cause to invent them all by themselves. This is what makes math fun. So the art of tutoring is taking that sterile, dry, out-of-context problem presented in teacher's notes or a text and convert it to something real and tangible. In other words, all tutors need to answer the question as to why this problem is worth solving?
