Arabic, Music and History tutor English teacher at Edinburgh - Josephine

I have been Josephine's Personal Tutor during her Arabic degree in Edinburgh University and I was always impressed with her dedication to her studies and the support she always gave to both her classmates as well as her teachers. She is a delightful person with a lot of empathy for others and having to master a difficult language such as Arabic puts her in a position to tutor others and give them the support they need.

Jo has been an exemplary student in the department of Islamic and Middle Eastern Studies at the University of Edinburgh where I am the course organiser for Arabic 2 and Arabic 4. Jo is quiet and modest in demeanour but clearly an impressively intelligent and sensitive student and more widely read than most students. She is independent in judgement, thoughtful and reflective with ideas and issues and she works most effectively in all situations; on her own, as part of a team, under pressure and in small groups. Throughout her study at Edinburgh University Jo has excelled in the Arabic language learning. She has a very well-developed interest in cultural issues and in language learning. As her tutor and course organiser I had ample opportunity to observe her scholarly potential and to assess her abilities. Her work is exemplary. I am impressed not only by her meticulous methodology in dealing with difficult situations but by her sensitive and nuanced feel for the Arabic language and culture.
