About Alex
I began tutoring in 2013 during my university studies and enjoyed it so much that I decided to carry on once I finished studying. I have always had a fascination with maths, particularly appreciating its underlying logic and beauty. It's this fascination that I try to build in my students. I have found that if I can help them to enjoy the subject, their confidence increases as well and the results follow. This is one of the main reasons I teach: to share my enthusiasm for my subject. I appreciate not everyone will love maths to the same extent, but I strive to help my students see it as less of a chore and more something to appreciate. In addition to past exam papers and question sheets I also introduce questions of my own to help my students understand what they are doing rather than blindly following a fixed method. This helps them to remember what they have learnt which in turn aids them in improving their results.

I am an experienced maths tutor for GCSE and A Level students with a real passion for the subject. I have always loved maths - having studied it to university level - and enjoy sharing it with others. So that I know how best to tailor the lesson to the student, I will usually ask what they are currently working on in school and the specific topics they find most difficult. I have seen that it is helpful to show my students why a particular method works, rather than just focusing on answering questions. To that end, I try to teach them the underlying logic and beauty of the subject. When my students really understand what is going on, I have seen their confidence greatly increase and the results follow. Of course, this is tailored to each student's individual ability. During important sessions (such as in the lead up to exams) I will focus on exam questions, teaching my students how to best lay out their answers to maximise their marks. I also regularly review topics we may have covered in the past to keep it fresh in their minds, as it is easy to forget crucial details, and will help them get the most out of their revision. Learning should be fun and I try to create a relaxed atmosphere in my lessons so students feel able to comfortably tell me what they are thinking and how they approach a question. This helps me to see how each student understands a topic so I can best help them to grasp what is going on. I have a first class honours degree in Pure Mathematics from Queen Mary University (and 2 A Levels in maths, both at A*) and have been tutoring maths now for 9 years. My students have often expressed how my lessons have increased their confidence and boosted their grades.

Alex is an excellent maths tutor. He helped my daughter during her GCSE from a time she was just an average maths student. With Alex’s help, she ended up achieving Grade A. That was an outstanding result. He’s also helping my son at the moment go through his GCSE and already, he’s making a difference. I will always recommend Alex, very disciplined and talented.
Alex has an enthusiasm for maths that comes through into his teaching. He explains the topics in a way that you grasp. His patience helps him explain things in different ways if you struggle to understand. I would certainly recommend him as a tutor.
