  • 1) Do you speak this language fluently because of your origins or because a teacher inspired you to learn?

I speak English fluently because I was born in London, England. I went through the education system in England. This has enabled me to have an accurate grasp of the English language, including pronunciation and effective communication skills.

Furthermore, I have always been inspired by Imran Khan, the cricketer. English was not his first language; despite this he has an impressive vocabulary and accent. Additionally, he is an Oxford university graduate.
  • 2) Can you name a living, historical or fictional character that you think is the emblematic representative of the language's culture?

I have always admired Tony Blair, the former Prime minister of the UK. He was an excellent orator who used language very creatively to express his opinions effectively, to gain the response he craved.
  • 3) Is there a typical word, phrase, tradition or behavior in the language that you particularly like?

I love the phrase ‘When there is a will, there is a way’. This phrase perfectly encapsulates the notion that nothing is impossible, we just have to work the right way to achieve our dreams.
  • 4) Why does speaking this language matter to you?

Living in the UK, it is paramount for me to speak English fluently. Working as a Sixth form teacher makes it even more prudent to make sure my pronunciation is accurate.

Additionally, English is an international language spoken in many countries around the world. By speaking English, I am able to effectively communicate with many people around the world.
  • 5) What is the main difficulty in learning this language and what can help the process of learning?

The main issue with the English language is that it is not phonetically accurate, this means the letter ‘C’ can be pronounced as ‘ka’ or ‘sa’. Then there are silent letters such as ‘L’ in words such as ‘walk’. These grammatical rules can create barriers for people who are learning English as a second language, or even people with SEN needs. Luckily, I am experienced on how to overcome these obstacles.
  • 6) Provide a valuable anecdote related to your language learning or your days at school.

I remember, as a child, trying to learn Arabic and English simultaneously. The former language is phonetically accurate, whilst English is not. Right then and there, I realised that learning each language (or subject) requires a different set of skills. You have to be resilient, flexible and attentive. I have used this deep understanding in order to help thousands of students succeed in reaching their optimum. Whether it was, GCSE English, passing Functional skills English, closing business meetings or even having fluent conversations in English.
  • 7) How has travel or a specific trip helped you to increase your skill and knowledge of the language?

When I go abroad, I notice how people around the world are so passionate about speaking English. This makes me humble and realise how lucky I am to be born and raised in the UK. My motivation to teach English has increased each time I leave the shores.
  • 8) What makes you a Superprof in language?

No two students are the same, we all need contrasting strategies to succeed. I am very adept at tailoring my lessons to meet each student's individual needs, where they can see progression at the end of every lesson. I also know how to create rapport with students, making them feel safe and not judged. I am very passionate about teaching and see it as my calling in life, as opposed to just a career.
