About Charlotte

I am a Brooklyn-based visual artist, musician, and writer with a bachelor's degree from Yale University in English and Creative Writing. I also studied visual arts in multiple disciplines with a focus on sculpture and painting, as well as taking courses in photography and performance art. I grew up in a family of musicians and have played and written music since I was very young—I am primarily a singer-songwriter, I play foundational guitar and piano, I have recorded and released an album, I’m currently in the process of creating a new project, and I’ve begun to produce my own music after taking a production course through Berklee School of Music. I am a deep believer in the value of working in multiple mediums at all ages, and I especially believe that children and young adults benefit from the freedom to explore different modes of expression in combination. Exposure to a variety of creative mediums not only helps to locate a student’s strengths and passions, but also supports them in developing their creativity, emotional attunement, self-knowledge, observation and information synthesis, and self-expression. I offer support, guidance, and instruction tailored to the interests of my students, exposing them to a variety of art forms and helping them to find and clarify their creative voice and direction. I’m also happy to work with students in a single medium if preferred. I have received multiple awards, honors, and fellowships for my writing, visual art, and music. I have extensive experience working with and caring for children and young adults. I have taught writing workshops, served as an editor for multiple writing publications, and currently work at a music venue and as a visual artist’s studio assistant. Most importantly, I’m a practicing artist desiring to pass on what I’ve learned and am learning. Please reach out with any questions—I look forward to hearing from you!

My lessons are tailored to the desires of my students and their parents. I’m happy to teach a wide range of mediums or to customize lessons with a more specific focus. I’m also happy to help with school-related creative assignments, or to assist a student in developing a specific personal project. I adapt to my students’ individual learning styles and instincts, and I seek to create an environment where they feel comfortable, inspired, and empowered to create. My lesson structure varies depending on my student’s age and interest—for some, this may mean honing one medium and/or gradually cycling through individual art forms, and for others, this may mean freedom to combine different mediums and work more experimentally. For some, direct assignments are most useful, and for others, self-directed projects with consistent support and guidance is best. I devise prompts, activities, and projects for my students, helping them to flesh out their ideas and bring their visions to fruition. My rate does not include the cost of materials, which are paid for by the client as an additional cost—together we can discuss a budget that works for you, buy as we go on a case-by-case basis, or work only on projects that cost little or no money.
