About Hluma
My name is Hluma-Nande Mhlaba. I hold a BA in Political Studies, Geography and Environmental Studies and Psychology. I also hold a BA honors in Psychology. I am now currently pursuing a PGCE (FET). What makes me unique as a tutor is the integration of psychological principles into my teaching approach. I use methods that address different cognitive processes. As I consider myself as a polymath/erudite (someone who is interested in multiple fields) I have a very high general knowledge. My hobbies include playing video games, and playing chess. As well as sightseeing. I have experience as a tutor at The University of the Western Cape.

I believe in facilitating an interactive environment where students not only grasp geographical and historical concepts but also understand how these concepts connect to the world around them. I use a range of tools which assist in comprehension, such as visual aids, interactive maps and real-world case studies, in order to encourage critical thinking. I am proficient in English, IsiXhosa, IsiZulu and Afrikaans. In a typical lesson, students can expect: - A warm-up session; - Interactive lessons where I use real-world examples and digital resources to make the content come alive; - Content explanation where I break down concepts; - Active practice where I introduce a blend of formative assessments to test knowledge while reinforcing the material; - Reflection and Wrap-up. My lessons are tailored to a range of students, namely: High school students and; University students.
