About Osiel
My name is Osiel Mendoza, and I am from Riverside. I am a recent graduate of UC Santa Cruz with a Bachelors of Science in Astrophysics. I enjoy helping students improve their skills and understanding about math and physics because I used to struggle during my high school and college days and wish someone had taken the time to patiently walk me through my questions. I believe that progress and proficiency come slowly and with practice, and that it is ok to make mistakes. By making mistakes that is how we learn and grow. I look forward to working with you :).

My approach to teaching focuses on helping students through their uncertainties in math and physics, then reinforcing concepts and strategies for improving problem solving skills and intuition. My strategy is hands on, preferring to jot things down on pen and paper or a white board to visualize the problem solving process. I begin by helping students with homework first to gauge their struggles with a subject, then construct lesson plans around those struggles.
I am patient and enjoy taking my time to encourage students, instilling in them that making mistakes is part of the process, and practice is the path to proficiency.
My lessons are for middle and high school students, as well as entry level collegiate calculus.

Osiel has helped tutored me in math and physics for the last 4 years! My favorite thing about his teaching style is his patience and ability to motivate. He never makes you feel dumb for not knowing something, and is incredibly reassuring. I also appreciate that whenever I need help on something he is not familiar with, he will learn the material and re-teach it to me in a more digestible manner. I would highly recommend!!
