About Abigail
I am a classically trained oil painter from London. I grew up surrounded by my grandmother’s artwork and developed an early obsession with drawing. I was also drawn to the beauty of mathematics. I pursued this academically, studying at the University of Oxford, where I completed a master’s degree in 2019 before embarking on a PhD at Imperial College London. Yet, over time, my love for painting eclipsed my fascination with maths. In 2021, I made the decision to leave academia and devote myself fully to my artistic practice. After studying classical realist art for four years at the Barnes Atelier, and then with the North London Group, I now continue to develop my craft, creating a blend of meticulous studio works and expressive plein air pieces. My art has been showcased in numerous prestigious exhibitions about the UK and internationally, such as with the Royal Portrait Society and the Royal Institute of Oil Painters, and at the Salmagundi Club in New York. I have been teaching since 2020, both Maths and Art, and I teach art both one on one and run larger workshops.

I offer art instruction through both individual sessions and workshops, tailored for everyone from complete beginners to professional artists. My teaching focuses on developing a strong understanding of proportion, gesture, and form, alongside composition and colour, which will enable you to paint anything from portraits to landscapes. We study both from life and from the works of great historical artists, grounding technique in observation and tradition. Lessons typically last 1 hour. Before becoming an artist, I studied Maths at Oxford and Imperial. Teaching Maths from school to university level shaped my approach to art education. I strive to be clear, structured, and logical in my guidance, offering actionable feedback and exercises. At the same time, I adapt to each student’s personal style and goals, ensuring the learning process supports their unique artistic journey. Lessons are for adults and children over the age of 12.
