About Rodger
I spent over 30 years as a Creative Director at the center of pop culture, shaping work across graphic design, motion, and communication design. I hold a BFA from Parsons School of Design and spent more than two decades at MTV, collaborating with visionaries like Bruce Mau on Massive Change and earning recognition from the Cooper Hewitt National Design Museum. At the core of everything I do—then and now—is a belief in strong ideas and concept-driven creativity.
Now semi-retired, I offer private, one-on-one mentorship in Manhattan, building on my experience teaching at Pratt Institute and the School of Visual Arts. I love helping people solve creative problems, push ideas into unexpected places, and discover what they’re truly capable of. My background spans both fine art and commercial disciplines—painting, drawing, sculpture, color theory, and design—so I can meet students wherever they are.
I work with children and adults of all ages and abilities. Years spent in youth-driven culture make me a natural fit for younger students, while my life experience allows me to support older adults with patience and care. I’m also a certified life coach, bringing an empathetic, hands-on approach rooted in active listening and personal growth.
In addition, I’m a New York State–certified Recovery Peer Advocate. While I don’t provide clinical therapy, I offer art-based sessions that support self-expression, reflection, and personal discovery. Creativity, to me, is not just about making things—it’s a powerful tool for connection, healing, and joy.
Outside of teaching, I stay engaged in my own creative practice through photography, painting, and craft. I believe creativity is for everyone—and when approached with curiosity and support, it can open up something truly meaningful.
