About Amanda
I won the Distinguished Teaching Prize at my college in New York City, and was nominated for this honor by my writing and literature students. I have a decade of experience teaching college-level English, Composition, Literature and Creative Writing classes, working with a vast variety of students, reflecting the diversity and inclusion of NYC. I am personally responsible for teaching and mentoring hundreds of students who went on to win awards and scholarships to graduate school programs (including prestigious law schools), and who published their writing in literary journals and magazines. I believe that each writer--no matter their level of public "success"--still battles their own "inner critic," and most professional writers know exactly how to combat the potentially sabotaging habits of perfectionism and procrastination. I break complex ideas down into simple concepts and achievable goals, having empowered thousands of students to accomplish their academic and literary goals at any stage of their path, from middle-school through college.

I meet students at their present level, helping them achieve swift and steady success in reading, writing, editing, personal creativity and self-expression. I apply a compassionate yet thorough approach to any student at any stage of the creative process. I am patient, kind and have worked with students from age 8-80. Every student of mine has grown and built their reading and writing skills while feeling empowered to discover their own unique voice. I provide opportunities for low-stakes writing prompts and self-reflective exercises, so my students understand that successful writing involves close reading and dedicated editing. I work closely with my writing students who struggle with the challenges of perfectionism and procrastination.
