• Tell us more about your subject. How did you develop an interest in this field?

  I am teaching yoga, it's always a pleasure to do and to teach yoga. After every class or practice, I feel very relaxed and recharged.
  I started doing yoga during my school days. I learned the basics of yoga from JNV mayannur at my school. It was very strict to do yoga early morning 5 o'clock. It was not that easy in the beginning. But gradually I like doing asanas. I felt like am quite flexible. That gave me confidence.

• What or who is the motivation behind you choosing to teach & why?

  After my graduation from Ayurveda. I started working as an Ayurveda doctor but still, I used to practice yoga, since it was needed in my life. Then it was my mother asked me to do a yoga teaching course since I am very much passionate about it. And now I feel that was the correct decision for me.

• How does your work help society?

  I really feel proud teaching yoga, Just like it helped in my life. It is also helping my students. It improves the quality of life.
  Creates discipline in our routine. And it can also be used alongside treatments for obesity, PCOD, asthma, and many more.

• If you had to think of a role model for your work, who do you think of & why?

  I don't have any specific role modal in the field of yoga, but I follow the teachings of Swami Sivananda. I am teaching the Sivananda style of yoga because it is very simple and easy for teaching. He has done thorough Researches In this field and his classes are tailor-made for the current health situation in our society.

• Tell us about your hobbies outside teaching.

  Apart from yoga, I have many hobbies. I like to dance and I have learned Bharatanatyam for 7 years. I also like kalarippayattu( a traditional martial art form from Kerala).
  I have learned Karnatic music. I like to play table tennis, I have a runner-up trophy from Kerala health university intercollege championship.

• Do you have an anecdote to tell us about your student or professional life?

  It was during my yoga teacher training, the master was teaching sirshasana( headstand). Since I had a very long practice in yoga and I thought it is nearly impossible for me to do the headstand, I had weak hands ( which I believed at that time). We were doing the upside-down walk for the headstand, and the master came near me and asked me to raise my legs up. I was shocked, now here am going to break my neck. Praying all the gods I kicked my legs up. He grabbed my feet and asked me to engage the core muscles and focus. I tightened my abdomen and was praying that he doesn't leave my foot. He moved a bit away from me, and still there I was standing and everyone started clapping. I realized I am upside down without any support. It was pure joy but not lasted long I lose balance and went another way directly hitting my back, and everyone started laughing. There was no pain, but I was embarrassed.
  Later before completing the teacher's training I mastered the headstand after many falls. But still, I tell this story to my students who are afraid to do headstands, that anybody can do headstands if you don't have any health issues.
