My approach to tutoring focuses on building a strong conceptual understanding of mathematics while also improving problem-solving skills and confidence. I guide students to understand the “why” behind the math so they can apply concepts independently. This prevents shallow, regurgitation technique that students acquire when math is viewed as an amorphous soup of theorems and laws to be memorized.
In a typical lesson, I begin by identifying any gaps in understanding from previous material or assignments. I then walk through key concepts with clear, step-by-step explanations, followed by guided practice where the student works through problems with my support. As the lesson progresses, I gradually reduce assistance so the student can demonstrate independence. I also incorporate review and reinforcement to ensure long-term retention.
What sets me apart as a tutor is my background in teaching and my ability to adapt explanations to each student’s learning style. I focus on making math approachable and structured, especially for students who feel overwhelmed or stuck. My goal is not just to improve grades, but to help students feel confident and capable in math.
My lessons are best suited for middle school, high school, and early college students, particularly those taking Algebra, Geometry, Algebra II, Pre-calculus and Calculus or preparing for exams such as the SAT.
