About Sade

I’m an independent photojournalist with press credentials from the City of New York, specializing in powerful, human-centered storytelling on community health and wellness. My work lives at the intersection of journalism, public health, and social justice—documenting the people, movements, and systems shaping life in underrepresented communities. Whether photographing neighborhood mutual aid efforts, chronicling frontline health workers, or capturing the everyday realities of food insecurity and housing, I bring a deep commitment to ethical storytelling and visual truth. My images don’t just inform—they connect, challenge, and inspire action. With years of field experience and a strong editorial eye, I offer clients and students alike a rare blend of narrative clarity, cultural sensitivity, and visual impact. As an educator, I teach photojournalism with a focus on story development, ethical fieldwork, and real-world application, helping emerging storytellers create work that’s both visually compelling and socially meaningful. I’m available for assignments, workshops, guest lectures, and editorial collaborations—with a particular passion for stories that elevate local voices and drive public conversation.

My Approach as a Photojournalism Tutor Teaching Method and Techniques My teaching approach is centered on immersive, practice-driven learning combined with critical storytelling analysis. I guide students to see beyond the lens—to think like visual journalists who craft compelling narratives with purpose and ethics.

 Key techniques I use include:

Project-Based Learning: Students develop photo essays or reportage projects from start to finish.

Critique Sessions: Constructive, peer and tutor-led feedback helps refine both visual and editorial judgment.

Case Studies: We dissect iconic photojournalism work to understand what makes images powerful and truthful.

Ethics and Contextual Learning: Emphasis is placed on responsible storytelling—cultural sensitivity, consent, and accuracy.

On-Assignment Simulation: Simulated real-world field assignments that include constraints (time, access, risk) to mimic working conditions.

A Typical Lesson Plan Each lesson is a blend of concept, technique, and execution.

Here’s a sample 2-hour session:
Intro (10–15 min) Brief on today’s topic (e.g., “Visual Storytelling Structure” or “Covering Social Movements”)
Mini-Lecture/Demo (20–30 min) Presentation on technique, compositional tools, ethics, or gear tips Analysis of professional photojournalism examples
Workshop/Practice (45–60 min) Hands-on shooting, editing, or planning a story Sometimes includes fieldwork assignments to be completed outside of class
Critique + Feedback (30–45 min) Review and discuss student work—focus on narrative clarity, ethics, composition, and emotional impact
Assignment Brief (10 min) Outline goals for the next session (e.g., “Document a local community in five photos with captions”)
What Sets Me Apart as a Tutor Balance of Realism and Creativity: I blend journalistic integrity with artistic vision—students learn to shoot truthfully and beautifully.
Professional Experience: I bring real-world experience from field assignments, newsroom work, and editorial publishing, giving students a relevant and grounded perspective.
Tailored Mentorship: I adapt my feedback to each student's growth curve—whether they’re learning DSLR basics or developing a portfolio for Magnum or VII.
Ethics-Focused Instruction:In an age of image manipulation and disinformation, I place strong emphasis on the responsibilities photojournalists carry.

Who the Lessons AreFor

My lessons are designed for: Undergraduate or postgraduate students in journalism, media, communications, or visual arts
Aspiring photojournalists building a documentary portfolio
Journalism students who want to specialize in visual reporting
Freelancers or hobbyists transitioning into editorial/documentary photography

Experience with a camera (DSLR or mirrorless) is helpful but not mandatory—lessons scale from beginner to intermediate levels. I welcome a diverse range of voices, especially those interested in underreported stories and socially engaged storytelling.
