About Chris
I graduated from UC Berkeley with a degree in English as a Regents' Chancellor's Honors Scholar (top 1%) in 2019. Since then, I have tutored over 100 clients in AP English and other humanities, test prep, creative writing, and academic applications. I have published a young adult novel (search "Higher Education Chris Elisondo" on Amazon) based on my college experiences and am currently writing another. I have worked as an instructional and test prep designer for NoRedInk and IXL Learning, two leading EdTech companies. I have been living #vanlife for the past 5 years and have traveled to over 40 US states. In my free time, I like to sing at karaoke bars and play softball.

With all my clients in Literature, Writing, Test Prep, and College Applications, I strive to build a two-tiered approach to the subject matter: teaching to the task and universally-applicable skill acquisition. First, I will work with your student to fundamentally understand the systems architecture of what they want to achieve, whether that's the SAT test structure, what college admissions officers are looking for, or why a 5 paragraph essay is an effective unit for explaining a thesis. We will define our goals narrowly and understand why we're doing what we're doing. Second, I will teach your student how to make what we learn transferrable outside of a test score. It is my belief that the ability effectively express oneself through language is one of the most important and in-demand skills in the world today.
What sets me apart as a tutor is my breadth of experience across academia, professional writing, test prep instructional design, and education. Across my experience in reading, professional writing, teaching, test design, and education consulting, I have applied my skills in English composition and literature in the past seven years to help my clients achieve perfect SAT scores, get accepted into elite universities and jobs in academia tenure track, fulfill their dreams of publishing a novel, and see through every test or application from the perspective of the person making the test.
