About Illkya

I am a proud Latina and a graduate of the University of the Arts in Philadelphia with a BFA in Graphic Design. I also attended The Atlantic County Institute of Technology in NJ, where I was part of the Academy of Information Technology. Prior to freelancing, I served as a Graphic Designer at Mighty Engine. Currently, I am freelancing while balancing my job in the hospitality industry.

Throughout my career, I’ve had the privilege of working with a diverse range of clients, including Visit Philadelphia, Streets Dept, the NJ Devils, and Mural Arts. These experiences have taught me the importance of staying true to yourself and maintaining balance while pursuing artistic goals. I believe creativity thrives when we take care of ourselves and embrace our individuality. As a Latina, I bring a culturally rich perspective to my work, and I’m passionate about helping students develop their own unique creative voices. I look forward to guiding you to grow artistically while honoring your personal story.

People often think of art and design as separate—one about self-expression, the other about function. But the most compelling work happens in the in-between, where personal storytelling meets purpose. Art makes us feel. Design makes us think. And when the two come together, they have the power to shift perspectives, challenge norms, and make an impact. That’s the space I love to explore, and the space I want to help my students navigate.

As a bilingual (Spanish/English) Woman of Color, I approach teaching through a lens of cultural awareness, collaboration, and curiosity. I don’t believe in rigid hierarchies—learning isn’t about who knows more, but about exchanging knowledge. You bring your own lived experience, your own way of seeing and making, and I bring mine. The real magic happens when we meet in the middle, sharing and expanding our creative language together.

What to Expect:
• A Conversation First – Our first lesson is about discovery. What drives you? What challenges you? What do you want to explore?
• A Fluid, Student-Led Approach – No cookie-cutter lesson plans. Each session is tailored to you, whether that means refining technical skills, developing a distinct artistic voice, or better understanding the design world.
• For Curious, Creative Minds – I work with high school and college students, as well as young adults looking to expand their creative horizons, sharpen their craft, and push their ideas further.
• Flexibility to Fit Your Goals – While I’m especially excited to teach at the intersection of design and art, I’m just as happy to guide you through any specific creative goals within my capabilities. If there’s something in particular you’d like to learn, let’s explore it together.

My goal is to help you see that creativity isn’t just about skill—it’s about perspective, about being open to new ways of seeing and making. Whether you’re looking to master technique, find your artistic voice, or simply explore, I’m here to guide, challenge, and collaborate with you. Let’s create something real.
