About James
I have a wealth of experience volunteering as a tutor for DofE and also a program within my school called 'Science Link' which enabled A-level students to help younger students who were struggling. I was personally a student who initially struggled with school and actually ended up utilising the Science Link program at our school. This support helped me attain top grades at GCSE and eventually A-level. Therefore I can empathise with underperforming students and help them unlock their potential.

My approach to teaching involves understanding both how the topic works but also how it relates to other aspects of the GCSE/A level course. I also emphasise an active recall style of working which research has shown leads to better long-term memorisation. Alongside this, I teach students to understand how to convert knowledge of the subject into good exam techniques to access top marks. My lessons are typically an hour long and involve around 50% learning content and 50% applying the knowledge with questions. These lessons would be useful for any GCSE science student either trying to pass or attain top grades. They would also be useful for A-level students who take Biology.
