About Brendon
- What kind of experience do you have?
Much of my experience in university lecturing has been connected with Teacher Training, whilst I have taught on several other courses such as Combined Honours. I have enjoyed extremely high student satisfaction scores in the National Student Survey. In particular, students wrote that I valued each interaction: listening and trying to help improve performance. I am by nature competitive and impart this spirit to my students in their work and career ambitions. I am an encourager and will try to understand you as a learner and work out your precise needs. Please read my testimonials by past and present students. These outline clearly what I can offer you as a learner. There is, I think, a certain consistency in the tone of these responses so I am happy to let others speak on my behalf here.
Whether you are currently struggling to cope with university work or close to a first class degree classification, I can help you to push through the grade boundaries. I have done this many times with students; my expertise and encouragement will give you the best possible chance to make sure that this progress takes place. I have presented research on many occasions including lecturing on board cruise ships! Thus, it is fair to say that I possess a certain flair for helping students to present well. In particular, I can help you prepare for a winning academic presentation or ensure that you succeed with that job interview. With the latter, my role begins with helping you find out exactly what the employer wants, structuring your written application accordingly and then delivering excellence in the presentation.

Lecturing is a results industry and I have great experience in helping students to achieve success. Suzie and Hannah are two students I have worked with and these are their (extended) testimonials:
* I began my academic journey in September 2013, attending MMU Cheshire. Not having a great deal of confidence in my academic abilities, naturally I was nervous. On top of that I was also the oldest in the cohort by some twenty years or so. Brendon McGuire was assigned to our cohort as lecturer and for that reason I will never ever forget my first year at university.
Brendon had a profound impact on me as a person and my academics studies. His kindness, faith and belief in me were unprecedented. Lectures were engaging, essays set were interesting and challenging and all feedback was constructive; all designed to encourage and enhance future work.
If it had not been for Brendon, I truly believe I would not have achieved my goal of First Class Honours (2016) and neither would I be embarking upon a Masters Degree. I owe him a debt of gratitude, one which I doubt I will ever be able to repay.
Suzie,, Masters Student.
It is safe to say, Brendon McGuire is one of the key reasons I am lucky enough to be in a profession I love today. Throughout my study at Manchester Metropolitan University Brendon was not only extremely knowledgeable, but he relayed it in a manner in which was accessible to all. He knew how to challenge me as well as support me when I needed, and I know this to be true for many. Brendon's nature made it very easy for him to form strong relationship with his students, his open door policy meant that I felt at ease coming to him for both academic and personal advice.
Most of all Brendon made me feel as if the professional sky was my limit, and university was only the start. For this, I will be eternally gratefully.
Hannah, BA (Hons) Student

Recommendations come from relatives, friends and acquaintances of the tutor
In addition to being one of my course lecturers, Brendon was also my dissertation advisor. I found him to be an incredibly dedicated and supportive man for whom nothing was too much trouble. The experience he has is second to none and I'm certain that one of the reasons I am the teacher/pastoral leader I am today is due to the time, guidance, and unwavering support he gave me through my training. I would wholeheartedly recommend Brendon to anyone looking for help.
Thank you Brendon!Brendon provided fantastic support throughout my university studies. Not only is he knowledgeable, professional and passionate about education but he is also kind, approachable, non judgmental and he ensures you never just feel like a statistic, by providing a personalised learning experience. The advice he gave me throughout my teaching placements still resonates in my teaching today, 10 years after leaving university! I would most definitely recommended Brendon as a tutor and mentor'.
Brendon McGuire was a senior lecturer at Manchester Metropolitan University which I attended. During my time there, I found him to be very professional and knowledgeable in his subject matter. Though this we developed a strong relationship as I felt I could go to Brendon for advice not only on my course work but about University life as a whole. Brendon always made time for his students and had an open door policy. Brendon played a key role in me obtaining my dream job when I graduated.
Brendon helped me in all aspects of my studies both at undergraduate and postgraduate level. What you will find when you work with Brendon is that he will challenge you in all aspects of your work and will aid in the process of bettering yourself in reading, writing, listening etc.
He was my supervisor for my Masters degree and now provides online tuition for me at Doctoral level: this has been highly effective in terms of helping me to improve both my research and writing skills.Brendon was an 'outstanding' lecturer and friend during my time at MMU. His positive personality really pushed me to achieve my best. No matter how hard something may have been for me, Brendon always made time to support me through my studies.
He is a true role model to all of his students. His knowledge in Physical Education and Sports Pedagogy is exceptional. His skills which he passed onto all student teachers are still being implemented by myself and many others today.Brendon was an inspiration to myself and many other students during my time at MMU. He was extremely knowledgeable but it was his mannerism and willingness to help which made him a firm favourite with everybody in the year. Brendon always took a personal interest in my football and recent achievements and made me feel relaxed, thus willing to work for him. He would go above and beyond the call of duty. He is an outstanding practitioner and somebody who I would highly recommend.
Brendon is a calm, warm and friendly lecturer who cares a great deal about his students. He is a great listener who always makes time for his students. This is a quality I try to always take in my practice today as a classroom teacher and head of key stage. His classes were interesting and thought provoking and I always took away a great deal from them - something which is quite difficult at times for a 19 year old student! Brendon is a great man, who was respected and highly thought of by all.
