About Terry
About Me: Your Professional Mentor & Clinical Advocate
The Hook: High Energy meets High Experience
"Hello! I’m Terry, and I believe that the best way to learn complex social work and leadership concepts is through high-energy, open-minded, and stress-free conversation. I have over 25 years of experience in social work, from frontline to MSW and 3 yrs as Executive Director for an CFS agency. I have also co-facilitated a social work seminary at the University of Manitoba. I could say, "I’ve seen it all—and I’m here to tell you that you’ve got this." May I also add that my entire social work carrier was serving First Nation Communities in Manitoba and Ontario Canada.
The Safe Space: Non-Judgmental & Supportive
"Academic life and frontline human services can be overwhelming. My coaching style is rooted in a strictly non-judgmental, supportive philosophy. Whether you’re struggling with a theory that won't 'click,' feeling stuck in a difficult practicum, or prepping for a major presentation, my digital door is always open. I provide a safe, high-energy space where no question is too small, and no challenge is too complex to deconstruct together."
The Legitimacy: Why Me?
"I bring a unique fusion of 'the classroom and the field.' Having taught at the university level and managed agencies with 30+ staff, I understand the 'Clinical Logic' that professors and hiring managers are looking for. I specialize in helping BSW/MSW students and new managers find their professional voice and build the confidence they need to lead with grace."
The Practicality: 100% Remote & Student-Led
"I offer 100% remote sessions via Zoom or Teams, tailored entirely to the challenges you bring to the table each week. My goal is to send you away from our sessions feeling lighter, more confident, and ready to tackle your next academic or professional milestone."

My Methodology: Clinical Logic & Strategic Problem-Solving
Your teaching methodology and techniques
"My approach is entirely student-led and challenge-focused. Instead of following a rigid, one-size-fits-all curriculum, I use a Clinical Supervision Model. We start by identifying the specific 'fog' you are currently facing—whether it’s an abstract theory that won't click, a difficult practicum dynamic, or a complex case study. I use Socratic questioning and Relational Theory to help you bridge the gap between academic requirements and real-world application. We don't just memorize; we deconstruct."
A typical lesson plan
"Because my sessions are tailored to your immediate needs, a typical 60-minute remote session follows a high-impact 'Consultation' structure:
The Check-In (5 mins): We identify the 'presenting challenge' for today’s session (e.g., an upcoming thesis defense, a theory-heavy essay, or a practicum hurdle).
Deconstruction (20 mins): We break down the academic theory or professional standard involved. I use my experience as a University Seminar Facilitator to simplify complex concepts.
The 'Real World' Filter (20 mins): We apply that theory to a practical scenario. How does this 'look' on the ground? How do you write this into a professional assessment?
Synthesis & Action (15 mins): We summarize the 'Clinical Logic' we’ve developed and map out your next steps for your assignment or placement."
What sets you apart as a tutor
"What sets me apart is the Executive-Level perspective. I am an MSW with 25 years of experience, including serving as an Executive Director and a Seminar Facilitator for the University of Manitoba. I have sat on both sides of the table—as a student, a teacher, and a hiring manager. I understand exactly what professors are looking for in an MSW thesis and what agencies are looking for in a new hire. I provide the 'Senior Wisdom' that textbooks cannot offer."
Who the lessons are for
"My sessions are designed specifically for:
BSW & MSW Students: Navigating complex social work theory, ethics, and research.
Practicum Students: Looking for safe, remote mentorship to debrief their field experiences.
New Human Service Managers: Transitioning from frontline work into leadership and supervision.
Advanced Learners: Anyone preparing for senior-level academic presentations or professional certifications.

I have known Terry for many years. We worked together in 3 different social work organizations.
Terry has been especially helpful providing support and counselling services to families experiencing mental health and behavioural health challenges. His ability to establish positive relationships with the parents and children is outstanding.
He’s also been a great teacher and mentor for men and women experiencing family violence; helping them build positive and nurturing relationships with their intimate partners.
Terry is an engaging teacher who uses humour and lived experiences that complement and clarify “social work knowledge”.
I definitely recommend him as a superprof tutor and instructor.Terry was my colleague when we provided crisis and support services

My primary goal is to help students move forward- away from the challenging academic or piratical situation they are in. Therefore, I have established a reasonable entry level fee for service and if and when a more elaborate lesson format is warranted, those discussions will take place including fee for service.
