About BALA

About Bala

Hi, I’m Bala — a music producer, DJ, and audio engineer with over 6 years of experience in electronic music production, DJing, sound design, mixing, and mastering. I hold a BA (Distinction) in Music Production & Performance, which has given me a strong academic and technical foundation alongside my industry experience.

My work spans both the music industry and media, with production and audio credits featured on BBC and Netflix projects, alongside releases on major streaming platforms. As a DJ, I’ve performed at recognised venues including KOKO London and Ambika Theatre, bringing real-world performance experience into my teaching.

Alongside my artist and production work, I’ve helped students, independent artists, and university producers develop their sound, finish tracks, and achieve both creative and academic goals.

Whether you're a complete beginner or an advanced student, lessons are tailored specifically to your needs. You might want to:

• Learn music production from beginner to advanced level
• Improve your mixing, sound design, and synthesis
• Finish tracks to a professional, release-ready standard
• Learn DJing, track selection, and live performance techniques
• Develop your own unique sound and artistic identity
• Get support with GCSE, A-Level, or university music production coursework

My teaching approach is practical, personalised, and focused on real industry workflows. You’ll learn using professional tools such as Logic Pro, Ableton Live, and industry-standard plugins, while understanding the creative and technical decision-making behind professional tracks.

I specialise in electronic music genres including House, Techno, Afro House, and experimental electronic music, with a strong focus on sound design, arrangement, and emotional depth in music.

My goal is to create a supportive and inspiring learning environment where you feel confident exploring your creativity and improving your technical skills. Whether your aim is to release music, perform as a DJ, build a career in music, or succeed in your academic studies, I’m here to guide you every step of the way.

Feel free to message me to discuss your goals — I’d love to help you grow in music production and DJing.

Each session is practical, engaging, and focused on helping you make real progress in music production and DJing. Lessons are tailored to your goals and are based on hands-on, project-based learning using your own tracks and ideas, so you can immediately apply what you learn.

Some of the things I offer:

Music Production – Learn how to create tracks from scratch, including drum programming, arrangement, sound selection, and workflow improvement. Develop your ideas into complete, structured tracks.

Sound Design & Synthesis – Understand how to design your own sounds using synthesis, layering, and processing. Learn how to create basslines, leads, pads, and textures that define your sound.

Mixing & Mastering – Improve the clarity, balance, and overall quality of your tracks. Learn EQ, compression, spatial effects, and professional techniques to achieve a clean, release-ready sound.

DJing & Performance Skills – Learn track selection, phrasing, transitions, set structure, and how to build and record DJ sets. Develop confidence and technical control in your mixing.

Track Feedback & Development – Receive detailed feedback on your existing tracks, with guidance on improving arrangement, sound design, and overall production quality.

Coursework & Academic Support – Guidance for GCSE, A-Level, and university students, including coursework support, project development, and portfolio preparation.

Lessons are typically 60 minutes and structured to ensure consistent progress, helping you build confidence, improve your workflow, and develop your skills effectively.

  • 1) When did you first develop a passion for music and your favourite instrument?

    1.

I developed my passion for music at the age of 14 when I first heard “Animals” by Martin Garrix. That track completely blew my mind—it made me realize how a single song can connect thousands of people and make them feel the same energy. That’s when I knew music was my calling. My favorite instrument is the piano, which was also the first instrument I ever learned. It became my foundation for understanding melodies, chords, and songwriting.
  • 2) Is there a particular type of music or artist that you listen to on a loop without it driving you crazy?

Currently, I’m listening to a lot of Electronic Dance Music and studying the works of different record producers. Fred Again is on a constant loop for me—his ability to blend emotion with rhythm is genius. I also have phases where Metro Boomin and Pharrell Williams are on repeat, because both are brilliant in creating timeless records that are both sonically rich and commercially successful.
  • 3) Explain to us the most difficult or riveting course you could personally give to a student of music.

The most riveting course I can give to a student is one where we create a track from scratch—right from ideation to production, mixing, and mastering—while also preparing it for live performance or release. For me, the difficulty of a course depends entirely on how the student learns. I break down each complex concept into simple, digestible steps so students never feel overwhelmed. I believe that’s where private lessons have an edge over universities—they focus more on the student’s pace and comfort rather than rushing through a syllabus.
  • 4) What do you think is the most complicated instrument to master and why?

I think the sitar is one of the most complicated instruments to master. It’s not just about technique, but also about understanding microtones, ragas, and the subtle nuances of expression. Unlike instruments where hitting the right key or string gives you a fixed note, the sitar demands precision, patience, and deep musicality to truly make it sing.
  • 5) What are your keys to success?

    My keys to success are:

Consistency over motivation—showing up every day, even when inspiration is low.

Curiosity—never stopping the habit of listening, learning, and experimenting with new sounds.

Collaboration—because some of the best musical ideas come when you share energy and creativity with others.

Most importantly, enjoying the process rather than only chasing results.
  • 6) Name three musicians you dream of meeting in your favourite bar in the early hours of the morning. Explain why.

I would love to meet Benny Blanco, Pharrell Williams, and Fred Again in a quiet bar at 2 AM. Benny Blanco because he’s a mastermind behind countless global hits yet so humble in his approach. Pharrell because his creative vision and genre-blending abilities are legendary—I’d love to pick his brain on how he approaches innovation. And Fred Again, because his music feels so personal yet universal—I’d want to understand how he translates raw life moments into dance music that moves millions.
  • 7) Provide a valuable anecdote related to music or your days at music school.

One valuable memory from my music school days was my first live performance of an original track during a university showcase. I was nervous, but seeing people groove and connect to something I had created from my bedroom was life-changing. That was the moment I realized that music is not just about technical skill, but about connecting emotionally with people—even strangers. It taught me that every note I produce can potentially create a memory for someone else.
  • 8) What are the little touches that make you a Superprof in music?

The little touches that make me a Superprof are my hands-on, personalized approach and my ability to simplify even the most complex concepts. I don’t just teach production or DJing—I guide my students through the mindset of being a modern musician. From understanding sound design and arrangement to tips on branding and releasing music, I ensure my students feel prepared for the real world of music, not just the classroom. I also bring industry experience, having produced tracks that have been featured on platforms like BBC and Warner Music, which gives my students a unique perspective on how to take their skills beyond a hobby.
