About Derek
I have had great success with helping students make sense of what they thought was foreign. Typical feedback is that they can't believe that they were failing before working with me and progressing so quickly that they are acing the class. I help them achieve this by applying what I have learned as an engineer, high-tech marketing manager, youth basketball coach, and math teacher--keep it simple and make it plain. I explain complex concepts in everyday language and relatable analogies. My students "GET IT"!

Math is NOT boring with me! My students laugh while learning. In addition to my array of dad-jokes I offer an approach which helps students visualize the math concepts they study. We don't simply go through problems step by step. We discuss what is taking place within the problem and how to apply prior knowledge to find solutions. Most importantly, students work diligently with me because the work doesn't feel like drudgery.
