Chris initially helped me by getting my A Level Latin up to speed during 6th form as I was a year or two behind coming from the US system. It was during the following 9 months that my ability in Latin increased dramatically, from simply struggling to high achievement in class and assignments. My genuine interest in the subject was also fostered by our sessions, Latin ceased to be taxing and became the subject I found most interesting. This I directly attribute to Chris' unique teaching style. The bi-weekly sessions were intensive but never boring and he tailored the material to my interest in history and increasing capability. As I planned to study Ancient History at University, Chris included historical analysis amid Latin grammar in the authors we read to offer a wide breadth of classical tutoring that not only helped me with Latin but better prepared me for my other A levels. Chris' enthusiasm in tutoring helped build my confidence in what I perceived to be a difficult subject. Nearer to exam season Chris offered in depth exam preparation and test techniques advice that also increased my confidence in my classical subjects. I genuinely enjoyed the subjects I reviewed with him to such an extent that he is tutoring me in a beginner Greek course before university with the same patience and enthusiasm which makes his teaching style so appealing. Mr Howarth is an excellent tutor. He really challenges you with many unadapted texts, encouraging your interest in them with discussion of the text and additional exploration such as scansion. Your vocabulary and grammatical knowledge will become much better. He has a kind and encouraging teaching style, and is always supportive.
