About Duy
I am a Cambridge Computer Science Undergraduate at Queens’ College, having achieved 3 A* in A Level Further Maths, Maths, and Computer Science at Peter Symonds College.
I am experienced in tutoring for A Levels, Oxbridge Admissions tests, and GCSEs. For example, I have tutored KS3 Maths for a year 8 student who was struggling and not enjoying class, and raised their confidence and enjoyment of Maths. I also tutored a year 11 student A Level Maths, GCSE Further Maths, and prepared them for the Senior Maths Challenge and the MAT to be taken in college. Alongside these specific examples, my range of experience goes from tutoring SATS Maths and beginner Python programming, and preparing for the Junior Maths Challenge, the Maths Admissions test for the National Mathematics and Science College, and the TMUA, all over a wide range of ages.
I will happily provide assistance for Oxbridge applications and interviews, having gone through the process myself and achieving all 5 offers from Cambridge, Imperial, UCL, Bath, and Durham. Specifically, I will guide my student through personal statement writing, interview preparation, and conduct mock interviews (which I personally found to be the most helpful in my own journey). Currently, I am supporting a Cambridge Computer Science applicant through the entire process, providing both TMUA tutoring and helping with his personal statement.
I achieved 100th percentile in the UCL STAT test for Computer Science, 7.1 in TMUA, a British Maths Olympiad Merit, and placed 1700 in the Facebook Hacker Cup. I also achieved 11 9s and an 8 at GCSE.
I love finding ways to explain topics in an intuitive way, and find it very satisfying when my students succeed in understanding an idea they have been struggling with.

I’m keen to teach the most intuitive ways to grasp and master topics. I place importance on understanding a method over memorisation of a method, as this both makes the topic more interesting and will allow adapting or combining methods to solve more challenging questions.
I will strive to lead the student through the discovery process of ideas, rather than just provide them as fact, to nurture a deeper understanding.
Each session will be extremely flexible, and the student will have full control on what they wish to work on. We will also discuss overall goals, and I will provide guidance for what areas I think they would benefit most from working on should they be unsure.
