About Jack
I am currently completing a PhD in anthropology at the University of Cambridge. Alongside my studies, I have spent over five years working with students on essays, dissertations and applications across the social sciences and humanities, as well as fields such as engineering, biology, and earth sciences.
My focus is on producing clear, well-structured work under real deadlines. I work closely with drafts, refining arguments and improving clarity to bring work up to a strong final standard. I also support exam preparation and study techniques.
I am reliable, responsive and straightforward to work with, and provide focused support across different subjects and levels of study.

I focus on helping you produce clear, well-structured and high-scoring academic work. Rather than just correcting writing, I work directly with your drafts to improve argument, structure, and clarity.
I have over five years of tutoring experience and have supported multiple undergraduate and Master’s dissertations through to completion. The focus is on how clearly and effectively ideas are communicated, regardless of subject.
Sessions are typically 60 minutes and tailored to your work and deadlines, including essay planning, refining arguments, reviewing drafts, and exam preparation. Not all support is lesson-based - I also provide detailed written feedback and editing on drafts outside of sessions.
With a background in law, accounting and philosophy, and current PhD work in anthropology, I bring a broad, practical approach to academic writing, whether in the humanities or sciences. Lessons are suited to undergraduate and postgraduate students, as well as those seeking support with university and funding applications.
Recommendations
Recommendations come from relatives, friends and acquaintances of the tutor
I am a lecturer and researcher at Stellenbosch University in South Africa. Jack assisted me with editing for an article that was published in January 2025. I would highly recommend him - he is an excellent writer and provides constructive and useful feedback.
Jack proofread and edited my Masters of Law thesis (25 000 words) and provided very constructive feedback on the content, structure of my arguments and technical aspects. He easily familiarised himself with my thesis topic and I would have struggled to complete my thesis without his encouragement and help.
His recommendations improved my thesis greatly, assisting me to obtain high marks for logical flow, grammar, punctuation and spelling.
We met while studying the same undergraduate degrees (Accounting and Law), he was one year ahead of me. Thanks again Jack!I worked with Jack while writing my Materials Science dissertation, and I can honestly say he transformed my academic writing. As a non-native English speaker tackling a lengthy, technical piece of work for the first time, I needed someone who could help me with grammar and with communicating complex ideas concisely. Jack’s help was invaluable.
One experience that stands out is when I was struggling to write the discussion chapter of my dissertation, which is the section where I had to tie together months of experimental results into a coherent narrative. I felt overwhelmed and wasn't sure where to begin. Jack helped me map out the key threads of my argument and guided me through the process of turning scattered findings into a well-structured report. That chapter ended up being one of the strongest parts of my dissertation.
I would strongly recommend Jack to any student looking to improve their academic writing.
