About Brian
こんにちは! 你好! I have experience living in Japan and China and speak at a lower proficiency level in both, at least enough to get around and introduce myself. I have a CELTA and have taught one-on-one classes as well as classroom settings. Language is an art, and you are an artist waiting to express yourself.
While I am teaching, my focus is on the student, not on distractions. I love seeing students have their "ah-ha!" moment when some concept or pronunciation clicks into place. Language is best learned as we use it so you should expect to be doing most of the talking.

My typical approach is to listen to the student, how they're processing the language, and then teach a variety of ways to practice new words and understand the structure of the writing or speech being studied.
I am most comfortable with high school and adult students. Depending on the level of speaking, lessons may take some time to focus on pronouncing difficult sounds, explain key word components (the Latin or Greek root), or diagram the essay being studied with sketches. You should walk away from each lesson feeling more equipped to communicate in English and encouraged by your progress.
