About Josie

I am an experienced and passionate educator and instructional leader with over 11 years of teaching experience in international schools across the United States, China, and Mexico. As a certified English teacher and current department leader, I bring deep expertise in IB (MYP), English language learning, and standards-based curriculum design.

I am known for creating structured, purposeful lessons that help students build lasting skills in writing, reading, and critical thinking. My approach focuses on developing confident, independent learners who can succeed across subjects and academic challenges.

I hold a Washington State teaching license with endorsements in teaching English language learners and Secondary English language and literature.

I specialize in teaching conversational English, academic English, presentation skills, formal essay writing, creative writing, and close reading skills at all levels.

Students and families can expect a professional, supportive, and highly personalized learning experience, grounded in both proven teaching practices and a genuine commitment to student growth.

About the lesson

Whether you need support with essays, reading comprehension, or advanced coursework, I tailor every lesson to your goals and learning style.

As a tutor, I focus on helping students build confidence, independence, and strong academic habits. My approach is student-centered, meaning I adapt each lesson to the individual’s goals, strengths, and areas for growth.

I use a combination of explicit instruction (modeling strong writing and thinking), guided practice (working together step-by-step), and gradual independence (so students can apply skills on their own).

My lessons are ideal for middle school and high school students (grades 7–12), IB MYP and DP students, and English Language Learners (ELL/ESL) of all ages and levels.
