About Aaron
When I was student teaching I was disillusioned by the state of mathematics education in classroom. I was asked to laboriously cover material in a way that only emphasized replication of some trivial task. All that mattered was could the students perform some computation on a test. Never was there any thought given to having the students understand why something worked the way it did.
In addition to that, I was not allowed to show students any of the wonderous things in mathematics that were within reach of what they were doing. The analogy I make is that if they taught art the way they taught math you would spend 13 years being forced to do color wheels and stretch canvas and never once shown a painting in a museum. Or if it was English you would do all grammar and spelling and never even be told Shakespeare even existed.
For these reasons, and others, I decided upon graduating to not go into the classroom and instead turn the tutoring I was doing on the side into a full time business.

I strive to have students of every grade and ability level understand the mathematics they are asked to do in school. I do not simply show them how to replicate some method, but guide them through why and how what they are doing works. Often I will help them to invent the mathematics for themselves from scratch having them make the decisions along they way so that they can see why things are the way they are.
I have a B.S. in Mathematics Education and have 10 years experience tutoring mathematics to students as young as 5 in Kindergarten through High School seniors taking AP Calculus BC and beyond. I have worked with dozens of students from some of the best public and private schools in the country including Choate, Newark Academy, Pingry as well as Millburn NJ, Maplewood NJ, Summit NJ Public Schools.
I work completely virtually so that I can be as accommodating as possible when working with families on scheduling their weekly sessions and allowing me to work with students no matter where they live.
