About Qing

Hello! I'm a native Mandarin Chinese speaker with over 6,000 hours of teaching experience. I'm CTCSOL-certified and have taught people of different ages, backgrounds and goals, both online and in person.

I completed an MSc in International Education at the University of St Andrews. My background in architecture and my experience founding a Mandarin club in Jakarta have deepened my interest in language, culture and the ways people connect across communities.

I've taught children, university students, working professionals and adults, from complete beginners to more advanced speakers, in both one-to-one and group lessons. I enjoy getting to know each student and finding ways to make learning meaningful, practical and enjoyable.

As a language learner myself, I understand that learning a new language takes time, patience and encouragement. I've studied Japanese, German and Indonesian, and I'm currently learning Koine Greek. These experiences continue to shape my approach to language teaching.

I believe learning Mandarin is about more than memorising words and grammar. It's about expressing yourself with confidence, understanding how the language works and discovering the culture behind it.

Outside teaching, I enjoy exploring traditional Chinese therapeutic practices passed down in my family, cooking for friends and gradually discovering the joys of growing my own vegetables.

Whether you'd like to use Mandarin in everyday life, at work, for study or travel, or simply out of curiosity, I'd love to help you find your own way into the language.

5）Mandarin for everyday life, work and study: Focus on the situations and topics that matter to you.
6）Exam preparation: Work towards your target exam with structured practice and a clear plan.

How we'll learn together

I combine structured materials with conversation, practical activities and real-life examples. We'll make time to practise, ask questions and revisit anything that feels challenging.

Speaking and listening are important, but I also believe that learning Chinese characters can open the door to a deeper understanding of Mandarin. Together, we can find a balance between communication and reading and writing that suits your goals.

Before our first lesson, we'll discuss your current level, what you'd like to achieve and how you prefer to learn. From there, we'll build a practical and rewarding learning journey, with clear goals and plenty to look forward to along the way.
