About Julie
I have always been that friend that everyone would ask to help them when classes got difficult. My friends used to say that I explained things better than the teacher did, probably because I didn't use all the jargon every time. Maybe I should have taken that as a clue to go into teaching sooner. However, in 2001, when I started college, I had planned on being a lawyer. I took a work study job as a tutor to help pay my way. In the process, I fell in love with teaching. Helping others to reach their full potential and understand complex ideas is my favorite part. I have three degrees now, including a Master's in Teaching. I taught at a major four-year university, including a class to teach others how to teach math. I do believe that learning the vocabulary is an important part of doing math, but over the years I have developed a wide array of ways to explain concepts which make math accessible.

Good tutoring does more than just walk you through one problem. It gives you the tools you need to tackle similar ones. I use questions to find out what my students understand and then build on that foundation, discussing misunderstandings in the process. Then I both explain why things work the way they do in easy to understand terms and provide memory tools that will help you remember steps as needed. Over the years, many of my students have said that my class was the first time math ever made sense.
