About Kathryn
Originally from outside of Chicago, I currently live in Michigan with my husband and our energetic three-year-old son. Before settling in Michigan, I had the incredible opportunity to teach overseas in Shanghai, an experience that deepened my love for education and working with diverse learners.
Outside of teaching, I love spending time outdoors, especially camping and exploring nature with my family. Whether I’m teaching, reading, or enjoying the outdoors, I value connection, curiosity, and creating positive experiences that help children grow and thrive.

Certified reading specialist with over 20 years experience; Orton-Gillingham trained, LETRS and UFLI trained, transforming K-5 readers through personalized, research-based instruction.
I begin with targeted assessments to identify each child’s specific reading strengths and gaps in phonemic awareness, phonics, fluency, comprehension, and writing. Using that data, I create personalized, structured lessons tailored to each learner’s needs and goals.
A typical lesson includes:
• Phonemic awareness and sound manipulation practice
• Explicit phonics instruction using Orton-Gillingham, UFLI, and LETRS-based strategies
• Guided reading with decodable or leveled texts
• Fluency and comprehension practice
• Writing and spelling connected directly to reading skills
• Multi-sensory activities to build confidence and engagement
My number one goal is for students to become confident, successful readers.
