About Jamia

Hello! My name is Jamia, and I am a certified Special Education teacher with over 10 years of experience supporting diverse learners. Throughout my career, I’ve had the privilege of teaching in both self-contained and inclusive classrooms—spending 6 ½ of those years co-teaching in general education settings. This has given me a deep understanding of how to tailor instruction to meet a wide range of academic and behavioral needs. I am passionate about creating learning experiences that are structured, engaging, and meaningful. My tutoring sessions are designed to build confidence, independence, and real-world skills, especially for students with IEPs or those in Community-Based Instruction (CBI) programs. I specialize in working with middle school students and take pride in being patient, consistent, and supportive in every interaction. Families can feel confident knowing that I bring professionalism, compassion, and high expectations to each session. I believe every student is capable of growth, and my goal is to help them reach their full potential—both in and beyond the classroom.

As a special education tutor, I focus on building a structured, supportive, and engaging learning environment tailored to each student’s unique needs. My approach blends hands-on learning, visual supports, real-world applications, and consistent positive reinforcement. I believe in meeting students where they are—academically, emotionally, and socially—and helping them progress at a pace that builds both confidence and competence.

A typical tutoring session with me begins with a warm-up activity that reviews previously taught skills, followed by an introduction to a new concept using visuals, step-by-step modeling, and interactive practice. I always include movement breaks, communication support, and plenty of encouragement. Lessons wrap up with a quick review and a chance for the student to reflect on their learning.

What sets me apart is my experience as a certified special education teacher, with 10 years of classroom experience—6 ½ of those years spent teaching in inclusive settings alongside general education teachers. This background has strengthened my ability to adapt lessons for a wide range of learners and collaborate effectively to meet individual needs. I bring a calm, patient demeanor and a deep commitment to helping students gain functional academic skills, increase independence, and grow in self-advocacy. I also incorporate life skills and social-emotional learning into academic content, ensuring well-rounded progress.

My lessons are ideal for middle school students in special education programs, especially those in CBI (Community-Based Instruction) or with IEPs. I specialize in working with learners who benefit from individualized instruction, structured routines, and a compassionate, consistent teaching style.
