About Britney

I am a Chemical Engineering Graduate Student who helps students make sense of difficult material so they can actually use it. Having navigated the rigors of an engineering curriculum in math, chemistry, and chemical engineering myself, I understand where the common struggles lie. My background has given me a deep technical grasp of these subjects. But more importantly, it has taught me how to communicate them in a way that is accessible and logical.

Tutoring, for me, is about more than just solving the problem on the page. It's about professional mentorship. I take pride in being a reliable, structured, and empathetic guide for my students. I know that STEM subjects can be intimidating, so I focus on creating a supportive environment where you feel comfortable asking the "why" behind every concept. My mission is to provide you with the same clarity and academic discipline that has allowed me to succeed at the graduate level, ensuring you have the tools to excel both in your current coursework and your future career.

My goal as a tutor is to help you build a working foundation so strong that you eventually will not need a tutor at all.

I take confusing, complex topics in math, chemistry, and chemical engineering and break them down so that they actually make sense. I use relatable analogies and real-world examples to connect abstract concepts to things you already understand, and I provide plenty of guided practice so you can truly wrap your head around difficult ideas. More importantly, I focus on teaching you how to approach problems systematically, that is, identifying what you know, what you're solving for, and which principles/equations apply. This way, when you sit down to tackle a problem set on your own, you have a reliable framework to follow rather than just memorizing formulas or solutions.

I tend to ask a lot of questions because I want to hear your voice. I want to hear how you think through problems or how you would explain a concept in your own words. This helps us deepen your understanding of the material while building your confidence and independence as a learner. Beyond the content itself, I believe learning is as much about mindset as it is about mechanics, and I aim for every student to leave each session more confident than when they started.

Every session is personalized to your immediate goals but follows a consistent, effective structure to maximize retention. We usually begin with a short brainteaser or warm-up question to activate your problem-solving mindset, then move into whatever you most need that day. It can be working through a tough problem set, helping you to understand a confusing lecture, or helping you prepare for an exam. Along the way, I identify areas of weakness and clarify common stumbling blocks while reinforcing the skills you already have with feedback. I end with a thought-provoking question or extension problem that challenges you to apply what we covered in a new way, ensuring the "voice" in the solution is truly yours.

I primarily work with undergraduate students in engineering, chemistry, or other STEM majors, as well as advanced high school students (AP/IB) who are ready for college-level rigor. As a Chemical Engineering graduate student who has passed through the same demanding courses, I can help you learn how to think, problem-solve, and ultimately succeed on your own.
