While I was a student I had to mostly memorize chemistry. During my higher education I realized it was the fault of the method of teaching not the subject. If the concepts are clear one can easily solve the problems without memorizing anything.

Everybody says chemistry is only exceptions..But every exception itself is the starting point of a rule..Thats the essence of chemistry.
physical chemistry has its beauty in deriving those rules. Inorganic chemistry and organic chemistry is the application of those concepts. I will always prefer to teach the concept and application in a concerted mechanism.
