About Sophie
I developed a love for chemistry when I realised it provides clear explanations for the processes happening all around us, from biological functions to industrial applications. This fascination led me to pursue a B.Sc in Chemical Sciences, where I studied both theoretical and practical chemistry in depth. Over the past 8 years, I have taught students at all levels, helping them gain confidence, understanding, and curiosity about the subject. I teach with patience, structure, and real-life relevance, guiding learners through complex ideas using clear explanations and visual aids. My approach ensures that students not only memorise formulas but truly understand concepts, enabling them to tackle problems independently. Many students who initially felt intimidated eventually develop analytical thinking and confidence through sustained practice and encouragement. Outside teaching, I remain engaged with chemistry through reading, lab projects, and exploring new developments in science. This allows me to provide current, practical examples in lessons, helping students connect classroom learning with real-world applications. Teaching chemistry is fulfilling because I witness students grow intellectually and develop a lasting curiosity for science.

Chemistry becomes much more approachable when students grasp the underlying patterns that govern reactions and molecular behaviour. In my lessons, I guide learners through atomic structure, chemical bonding, stoichiometry, reaction kinetics, energy changes, acids and bases, solution chemistry, and experimental reasoning using structured explanations and practical examples. My approach emphasises understanding mechanisms over rote memorisation, building both confidence and analytical skills. Beginners start with atomic structure, molecular formation, basic reaction patterns, and periodic trends. Intermediate learners explore stoichiometry, chemical equilibrium, reaction energetics, and solution calculations. Advanced students study kinetics, thermodynamics, organic basics, lab interpretation, and exam-style problem solving. Each lesson combines explanation, discussion, and guided exercises to ensure thorough understanding. Chemistry lessons foster scientific thinking, observation, and problem-solving skills. As students grasp how molecules interact and reactions proceed, they develop confidence in laboratory and theoretical contexts. My goal is to help learners find chemistry logical, interesting, and accessible, turning initial apprehension into excitement and comprehension.
