About Joanne
See my website online: Joanne Foote Chess Hi! I have been teaching for over 10 years and have taught students anywhere from 4 years old to 60, complete beginner to intermediate club player. My current students are based in Vancouver and London and range from 5-years old to adult, from complete beginner to strong club level player, and I teach private and group classes. I was a competitive chess player for 10 years, winning the 2014 U14 girls Canadian Championship and twice representing Canada at the World Youth Championships. I was a member of the BC Juniors in the Vancouver Rapid League, the UBC Chess Club, and Battersea Chess Club in London. Chess has brought me countless opportunities and learning experiences and I love passing on my passion for chess to new students and seeing my students improve their skills and appreciation for the game. Outside of chess I work as a Structural Engineer and like to stay active with hiking and cycling. See you in the classroom!

I believe students can always enjoy learning. I incorporate a lot of variety into my lessons, mixing lessons with games and friendly tournaments so students will never feel bored. Perfect! Joanne has been a great help and was really understanding whilst we arranged sessions. The student loves her lessons with Joanne and has said that Joanne is an excellent teacher! I would definitely recommend Joanne as she is friendly and highly organised.
Perfect! Joanne was an excellent teacher! She taught a 90minute lesson over webcam to me and 4 of my colleagues (ages 21-30), as a team building activity. She was eager to teach, handled various skill levels confidently and most importantly made the experience fun! I would recommend Joanne for anyone looking to improve their skill level, or learn about the history and fun facts of chess.
Perfect! Joanne is polite punctual and an excellent chess teacher. She knows her way around young kids as it was apparent with my 5 year old son. She has been extremely patient and incredibly nurturing. She has ignited curiosity about chess in my son, we as parents are very pleased. Thanks Joanne :)
