About Cleo
I have been teaching chess for six years, guiding learners from complete beginners to competitive club players. My lessons blend clear theoretical explanations with practical exercises to ensure that every concept can be applied effectively in actual games. I have helped students improve tournament performance, achieve rating increases, and build greater confidence over the board. I focus on fostering independent thinking, so students develop the skills to evaluate positions and make strong decisions without relying on memorization alone. Outside of teaching, I actively play in online and over-the-board competitions, which keeps my approach current and my understanding of modern chess trends sharp. This ensures my students receive guidance grounded in both theory and real competitive experience.

We start with opening preparation, focusing on principles like controlling the center, developing pieces efficiently, and maintaining flexibility. You will learn several practical openings suited to your style, giving you a reliable plan for beginning games confidently against different opponents.
Next, we move into tactical and positional understanding. Through puzzles, annotated games, and guided practice, you will sharpen your calculation skills, recognize common tactical motifs, and learn to balance short-term opportunities with long-term strategic goals during the middle game.
Finally, we concentrate on the endgame, where precision matters most. You’ll study checkmating patterns, pawn breakthroughs, and key theoretical positions. This will help you convert advantages into wins and defend difficult situations successfully, even under time pressure.
