About Kyra
I am a professional chess coach with over 19 years of tutoring experience, teaching students from schools, colleges, and working professionals. Over the years, I have successfully guided around 200 students, helping them improve their chess skills, develop strategic thinking, and build confidence in competitive environments.
My teaching philosophy focuses on understanding, communication, and practical learning. I believe that chess is more than just moves on a board—it is a way to improve decision-making, critical thinking, and problem-solving in real life. I use simple explanations, real-life examples, and case studies from famous games to make learning enjoyable and easy to understand. I encourage my students to think independently, analyze positions, and make smart decisions while fostering a positive and respectful learning environment.
I also teach related strategic games such as backgammon, checkers, Risk, and Settlers of Catan, helping students enhance their logical thinking and tactical skills across different games. My approach combines structured lessons with hands-on practice, tournament preparation, and mental focus techniques, ensuring each student can reach their full potential.
One of my proudest achievements is helping students achieve significant milestones, from winning school and college competitions to performing confidently in professional-level tournaments. My goal is to inspire a lasting passion for chess and strategic games while nurturing analytical skills that benefit students both on and off the board.

My teaching approach focuses on helping students develop a deep understanding of chess and other strategic games such as backgammon, checkers, Risk, and Settlers of Catan. I emphasize building strong fundamentals first, including openings, tactics, strategy, endgames, and positional play. I use real-life examples and case studies from famous games to show practical application and help students connect concepts to real situations.
I encourage active participation, asking students to analyze positions, suggest moves, and explain their reasoning. This develops critical thinking, problem-solving, and decision-making skills, which are valuable both in games and everyday life. I prioritize clear communication, ensuring that each student understands the concepts at their own pace.
Integrity and respect are central to my sessions; I create a positive learning environment where students feel confident to make mistakes and learn from them. I also help with game preparation, tournament strategies, and mental focus, making the learning process holistic and effective. My goal is not just to teach moves but to nurture a passion for chess and strategic thinking that lasts a lifetime.
