About Willa
My interest in chess began with a fascination for strategy and problem-solving. That curiosity eventually led me to complete a Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology followed by a Master’s Degree in Strategic Decision Making. During my 9 years of teaching, I have worked with learners ranging from complete beginners to ambitious competitive players.
I believe improvement comes from understanding concepts deeply rather than relying only on memorization. My teaching style combines patience, structure, and encouragement to help students build confidence in their own thinking. I enjoy creating lessons that challenge learners while remaining accessible and engaging.
Outside coaching, I regularly study master games, analyze tournament strategies, and follow developments in competitive chess. These activities allow me to bring fresh ideas into every lesson. Helping students discover stronger strategic thinking remains one of the most rewarding aspects of my teaching career.

My chess lessons focus on helping students understand the ideas behind strong moves rather than simply memorizing openings. We study tactical patterns, piece activity, positional planning, king safety, pawn structures, and calculation methods through clear and structured guidance. Every lesson is designed to strengthen thinking skills while making improvement feel achievable and enjoyable.
As students progress, we explore advanced middlegame plans, endgame techniques, strategic decision-making, and tournament preparation. Lessons include game analysis, practical exercises, and guided discussions that help learners recognize important patterns. I adapt my teaching to each student's level so that every session remains productive and motivating.
I believe chess is one of the best tools for developing patience, focus, and logical thinking. My goal is to help students become more confident decision-makers both on and off the board. Every lesson encourages steady growth, stronger analysis, and a deeper appreciation for the game.
