About Ivan

When it comes to children, everything must undoubtedly be ideal, because even the small mistakes in development can have a negative impact on the child in the future: from acting skills and career changes to outlooks on life. I think that you should always have a special approach to every single student, have good advice and technical explanations on some of the steps in order to foresee the mistakes. It is also important for me to contact the parents regularly (with small children) and to always exchange information. It is about concerts, joint dinners, meetings etc.

Information for students
You should understand that it is a long process to learn an instrument. You should trust me because my principle of teaching is that you don't have to do anything extra. Otherwise, as a teacher, I would not have done my job adequately. If you are older and already have some knowledge, it is of course possible that you come to all of the material that we do yourself, i.e. also practice or learn something. It is important to have great patience, especially at the beginning, and then I say, “I promise you, if you are diligent, we will achieve everything together. I'm not only going to teach you to be interested in the guitar, but also in music as a whole. I will also always care what music or artist you are listening to, and I will give my recommendations for books and films ”. What else I would expect from the students (not necessary): They have to know what they want from the guitar and what style they want to play. A lot of things depend on it. But if there is still uncertainty, then great interest and motivation are the most important things.

In my opinion, it is important to teach the child correct, balanced and methodical practice. To make it clearer, I'll give a verbatim example: "If you're not doing homework, you are not walking outside". As part of the exercise unit, I introduce myself and my students to certain steps: "If you do not do a set of exercises or do not practice a piece with a certain method, you cannot enjoy". Enjoying means playing through as normal as on stage. The teacher has to explain this very carefully and clearly and at the same time not put any pressure on the child. Now I am quoting my own sentence from my first conversation with the student: “I know that you are still unsure whether you will become a musician or not. Still, that doesn't mean we don't have to work on your game quality. It doesn't matter whether it is a unison piece or chord accompaniment. In any case, this so-called "little one" has to be done well, which also requires at least minimal self-discipline ”.

The basic challenge is to build one session on top of the other exercises. These exercises are arpeggio-like, scale-like, and are built on the chromatic and diatonic scales. We only notice these aspects in our pieces. To do this, we have to control our posture and hand movements during these exercises. Slow play isn't practice - it's play through again, but just at a different pace. The purpose of the exercises is to prepare the fingers and synchronize the two hands correctly. Because you have to understand that you can't play music right away.

First of all, it is important to automate the hand positions and posture well. So, your fingers learn to move properly and make yourself stronger. What do I mean by "stronger"? It's about fingering strings to make it sound clean, etc. I'm sure the students are excited to play very technically, but you have to understand what technique is. Technology is the greatest possible movement saving, which arises from correct finger preparation or a reduction in unnecessary movements that do not occur automatically and naturally for everyone if one does not take care of them. So we have to take it seriously and work on it for at least six months. These are the slow and really boring exercises that you just have to survive in the beginning.

In my opinion, it is better to practice these little nuances a little and regularly than to notice the difficulties directly with the piece. I personally agree with his opinion, because the child in the play does not automatically focus on these aspects such as posture etc., but on fun and joy. In the worst case, something can be wrongly automated. Hence, I have noticed one important thing for life: “Our fingers are like little children. If we do not take care of them, they will become disobedient and uneducated ”. The only thing to be emphasized is that the children go into independent life at 18-20, then the time of control is over. Up to this point, the parents base their views on life or principles from which their own experiences with the teenager, and then an independent personality emerges. The situation is different with the fingers: they always have to be checked regularly.
