Scientific and mathematical knowledge build on themselves. This means that often when a student is struggling with a new concept or idea, there is an older, more fundamental concept that they either lack or misunderstand. I make it my goal to find these issues and remedy them as well. This helps ensure better results going forward, as it gives the student a firmer footing in the subject.
